Trash & Recycling Collection

City of Madison, Indiana
Trash:
To schedule pickup, new residents can contact the Madison Water Department, at City Hall. Residents may put two 33-gallon cans or three 33-gallon bags at the curb for pickup once a week. For your pickup day call 265-8304. Schedule changes during weeks with holidays. For the weekly schedule call 265-3620, Ext. 7016, or go to egovlink.com/madison/events/calendar.asp.

Recyclables: Pickup is every other week. Downtown pickup is Tuesday, the hilltop west of Cragmont is picked up on Thursday and hilltop east of Cragmont is Friday. Schedule changes with holidays.   • All #1 and #2 plastics (clear and colored)

  • All aluminum bi-metal cans, with labels removed

  • Brown, green and clear glass, with caps removed

  • Clean, dry rags and shoes

  • Newspapers, bundled separately

  • Corrugated cardboard (dry and bundled or tied)

The privately-owned Recycling Center is located at 3535 N. Shun Pike, Madison, Indiana. It can be reached at (812) 265-2496.

Composting Material: Grass clippings, leaves, twigs, garden trimmings, etc. will be picked up once a week, April through October. From November through March, pickup is every other week. Downtown collection is Monday; hilltop on Tuesday. Materials must be placed in printed city of Madison compost bags or in a 33-gallong can marked with a printed city of Madison sticker. Compost bags are 50 cents. Compost stickers are $10 apiece. They can be purchased at the City of Madison Water Department.

Larger Limb Pickup: Call 265-8304 to be placed on the list.

Leaves: The city provides autumn pickup with the leaf vacuum. During spring and summer, residents can bag leaves.

Furniture: Discards are picked up every Wednesday on a call-in basis only. No appliances or fixtures can be picked up. Requests for service must be made no later than Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Call 265-8304.

Remaining Items: Carpet, construction material and miscellaneous trash may be taken to the Transfer Station, 611 Ivy Tech Drive, across from Ivy Tech Community College. You pay the tipping fees.

Usable Items: You may deliver these to Bridgepointe Goodwill (273-7121) or the Salvation Army (265-2157). Call for hours and donation policies.

Jefferson County, Indiana
Jefferson County, Indiana, collects bagged trash and recyclables at various sites throughout the week. No hazardous materials or construction trash are accepted.

Monday -- Saluda Township, located at Chelsea, corner of 600S and S.R. 62, Mondays 2-6 p.m.
Tuesday -- Deputy Feed Mill, 2-6 p.m.
Wednesday -- Dupont Feed Mill, 2-6 p.m.
Thursday -- Rykers Ridge Fire House or adjacent lot, 2-6 p.m.
Friday -- Canaan Fire House, 1-3 p.m. and Brooksburg Fire House from 4-6 p.m.

Town of Hanover, Indiana
Compost Center:
Available free to town of Hanover residents, with permits issued at Town Hall, 11 Madison Avenue. Those outside Hanover can purchase a permit for $35. Compost center hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, mid-March to mid-November. The center is closed Sunday.

Trash Collection: The town of Hanover, Indiana, offers weekly trash collection for up to two bags per week; the charge is $10 per month. Additional bags require a sticker. Set trash out by 7 a.m. Tuesdays. For information, call 866-2131, Ext. 23 or 24.
